A three-phase separator is a core device for the simultaneous separation of oil, water, and solids (or oil, gas, and water).

It is a key unit in oily wastewater treatment, oilfield produced fluids, sludge dewatering, and drilling waste fluid treatment.

I. Basic Definition
A Three-Phase Separator: Within a container, it separates three phases of substances in a single step using principles such as density difference, gravity, coalescence, and sedimentation.

The most common combination in water treatment:
Oil + Water + Solid (suspended solids/sludge)
Common in oil and gas fields:
Oil + Water + Gas
II. Core Working Principle
Taking oil-water-solid three-phase separation as an example:

Gravity Sedimentation
Oil has the lowest density → floats
Water is in the middle → water exits from the middle layer
Sludge/slag has the highest density → sinks

Flocculent Oil Removal
Internal corrugated plates, inclined tubes, and fiber coalescing materials allow tiny oil droplets to coalesce and grow larger, quickly floating to the surface

Flow Guidance and Stabilization
Inlet water distribution and rectification devices prevent short-circuiting and disturbance, ensuring stable stratification

Sludge and Oil Discharge
Top oil collection tank collects oil
Bottom conical/bucket-shaped structure periodically discharges sludge
Middle overflow water discharge
